Branding and Bottling Down-Home Southern Charm for Coastal Empire Beer

When my client wanted to evoke a laid-back, nostalgic vibe that stood out on shelves, I got my hands dirty and started drawing. Yes, lots of “product research” was needed as well.

A Fresh Old Take on Craft Beer Branding

A start-from-scratch branding project about beer? Trying to break into the seemingly saturated craft beer market? They had me at beer. They understood the need to come out of the gates looking like a real contender, but weren’t sure how to do that while keeping what they called a “low-country vibe.”

Old-World Charm in Every Sip

The most important request from the client was to feature a blue heron. After some image research and product samples, I settled on a woodcut style, shield and ribbon shapes to match the Old-World aesthetic they were going for. Six varieties, and a slew of craft brewer awards, later and we’ve enjoyed seeing this brand light up the bars and supermarket shelves across the region.
